Really Running On Empty
Not too many people have bothered to write much about John Edwards, and for good reason. He has approached irrelevancy almost as rapidly as Dennis Kucinich but with none of the entertainment value. After his predicted high-water mark in Iowa, where he edged Hillary Clinton on the basis of his populism, he has descended into spoiler status.

Charles Krauthammer, however, decides to analyze the John Edwards failure in today's Washington Post. One reason Edwards fell apart like a cheap suit springs from his decision to attack the record of a candidate - himself (via Memeorandum):

Edwards has made much of his renunciation of his Iraq war vote. But he has not stopped there. His entire campaign has been an orgy of regret and renunciation: ........

I liked Edwards more than Gore. He seemed more like a Clinton style new Democrat who wanted to help out the poor without attacking business.

He's a slimebag, and I hope he spends the rest of his life trying to figure out how to apologize for what he did... But I have to wonder if they really think they can get him on any felonies? I hate to use the "they did it too" defense, but let's face it, there have a been a LOT more egregious violations of FEC laws--ON BOTH SIDES--that are far worse than this...

And once again, a politician is getting busted for the coverup, diverting campaign funds trying to hide Ms. Hunter, than actually being a unfaithful scumbag while his wife has cancer. If he would have admitted everything at the start, he wouldn't have to worry about losing his law license now.

Seems more like Newt Gingrich to me. Serving the wife with divorce papers while she's in the hospital with cancer?

John Edwards Cheat Sheet: What Are the Facts, and Do They Make Him a Criminal?
—Marian Wang, ProPublica

But the criminal case against two-time Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards is anything but run-of-the-mill. While campaign finance experts may not agree on whether the charges are merited, they seem to uniformly acknowledge that the charges against Edwards are unprecedented. Here's a quick look at why, drawing from the prosecution's indictment, the defense's expert witnesses and what's been reported.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
