So this is the new American spirit, choose to earn less and get the free bennies?

Sounds good to me. I am tired of working and paying for my own insurance premiums. I think I will kick back, work part-time and earn $20K a year and live the good life. Where do I sign up for Obama-care?

President Obama's solicitor general, defending the national health care law on Wednesday, told a federal appeals court that Americans who didn't like the individual mandate could always avoid it by choosing to earn less money.

...“So it’s a penalty on earning a certain amount of income.... someone doesn’t need to earn that much income.....

[sarcasm font]Settling for my share of the collective's production isn't my style, if you want to live on welfare and become a ward of the state go ahead - you will probably learn a lot about why it's no fun to be poor.[/sarcasm font]

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Once people get used to the free check or the free health care, it does get hard to give that up if you don't have to. Not saying everyone who needs it will work the system, but if you think there are not lazy people out there who take advantage, you're very naive.

And if you think that anything approaching a majority of them do, then YOU'RE very naive.

...10 pound blocks of cheese, bags of groceries, let's all leach off the state, gee the money's really great.

And this will just encourage more of the economy to go underground. If you take your wages under the table, you can keep all that nice aid.

So how do you get to join the 208 unions and groups who obama gave waivers to because they realize how bad this healthcare mandate is?

Its a mixed confused message I think. Earlier the message was the unequal distribution of wealth and flat wage growth for the middle class. This new message says " just choose to earn less money" and the gov't will take care of you for free. Liberals always confuse me.

More than 90 percent of ALL waiver requests have been approved by the HHS. These particular businesses simply applied for a waiver. The waivers granted, exempt them and many others, the annual coverage limits mandated by the health care reforms passed last year. The waivers typically go to restaurants and other companies that offer "limited-benefit" health plans. They will expire after one year.
Limited-benefit plans are often used to cover part-time and low-wage employees, and they typically have low premiums and high deductibles. HHS began granting the waivers after insurers threatened to raise premiums dramatically or drop their coverage all together rather than pay for the additional coverage required under the reforms.

If it is so great, and so necessary for eveyone to have to participate, in order for this to succeed, then why are they giving waivers to anyone? Must not be nearly as great as they are climing.

I think it goes much further. They are actually encouraging you to earn less!

Think about someone earning $25K who goes to school or learns a trade and increases their income to $40K. Their take home pay may actually decrease after losing benefits. So why improve your skills? Just "choose to earn less money". That's hope and change!
