Ever hear the story about the guy who wrote up a crossword puzzle in England a few weeks before D-Day that had those landing sites as different answers. After intensive interrogation, they decided it was just coincedence. I don't think I would have wanted to be that crossword puzzle guy.
And for once I have congrats for Diana DeGette, she was there at Normandy on 6/6 this year with the veterans. Bravo. Sen. John Kerry too. Good to see him ditch his anti-war ways.

The link I added is pretty cool. It is 24 hours of actual radio broadcasting from 6/6/44. Many people were huddled around radios that day listening for updates as they knew how important the landing was.

In 1994 the ship I was on USS GEORGE WASHINGTON CVN 73, was honored to be the host ship for the 50th Anniversary of D Day. We set sail from Norfolk with some 50 WWII Vets that had landed at Normandy. We painted our aircraft in the black and white strips for the flyover at the US Cemetaries. We pulled into Portsmouth England to get ready. Then in the evening of the 5th at the exact hour they set sail we got underway. A fog rolled in, about 530am we came in sight of the beaches of Normandy as the fog lifted as we dropped the hook. We had a ceremony onboard the ship and laid a couple of wreaths in the water there. We had 3 of the orginal troop transports with us crossing the channel. The flotilla in 1994 was pretty big, ships from some of the various allied countries also were there. Not as big as back then but still quite the sight. Every year on 6 June I remember those folks from WWII and then think about that crossing we did.

I can only imagine the horrors of that day and admire those who bravely went in to the jaws of death only to emerge in victory.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
