This has bothered me for awhile, but I was never sure how much truth there was to it. The Brits have always been good allies, but the rest of NATO? Do they pitch in enough? (Money and manpower, including re-building costs)?

Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates rebuked some of America’s staunchest allies Friday, saying the United States has a “dwindling appetite” to serve as the heavyweight partner in the military order that has underpinned the U.S. relationship with Europe since the end of World War II.......Gates condemned European defense cuts and said the United States is tired of engaging in combat missions for those who “don’t want to share the risks and the costs.”

Now would be a great time to re-think our NATO partnership. I would increase military aid to Eastern Europe and decrease our military presence in Western Europe, especially Germany.

Since WWII (1945) we have poured over a trillion $$$ into Europe and defended freedom almost alone for over 60 years - the Europeans have built a fine well oiled socialist state under our umbrella - time for them to carry their own water. Wonderful place to be courtesy of the American taxpayer - paid for with dollars and blood. Party over Frenchie !!!
