HOUSTON — U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords could be released from a rehabilitation hospital in Houston sometime this month, a top aide says, offering the latest indication that the Arizona congresswoman is making progress in recovering from a gunshot wound to the head.
Doctors and family are considering “many factors” while making the critical next-step decision to release Giffords from TIRR Memorial Hermann, the hospital where she has been undergoing intensive daily rehabilitation since late January, Chief of Staff Pia Carusone told The Associated Press Saturday.
Since the shooting, Giffords has made remarkable strides, requesting her favorite foods, singing her favorite songs, and relearning how to walk and talk, although she struggles to string sentences together.
Quite an amazing recovery!
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
That kind of aphasia is very frustrating for the person. My mom had a series of mini-strokes some years before her death, and there wasn't anything wrong with her ability to think, or reason...But it left her unable to get the right words out and express herself, and it drove her crazy.
I wonder what will happen when her seat comes up for reelection the next time? Everyone wants to be sensitive to her ordeal, and to her situation--and at the same time, they need a VOTE from that district, and until she either returns or they elect a replacement, they're not getting it. I sincerely hope she progresses to the point that she can go back--but I'm not very hopeful.
