Our president has the power to order assignations on ANY AMERICAN for ANY reason, the power to conduct surveillance on ANY citizen for ANY reason, now our FBI Agents are allowed to investigate ANYONE for ANY reason. Wow! Again, he's consistent! Welcome to our new "police state"...BTW- where are all the "flaming liberals" who protested so heartily against Bush for the Patriot Act? Bush's affronts are "child’s play.
FBI Agents Now Allowed to Investigate Anyone Without Evidence of a Crime
by Happening Now Posted in: Catherine Herridge, FBI

The FBI has now given agents the authority to snoop on anyone, for any reason, even without evidence of criminal activity. Catherine Herridge explains the policy changes, which an FBI spokesman has characterized as “tweaks,” saying that they’d give FBI agents more leeway to look into organizations or individual suspects without strong evidence of criminal behavior.

These changes are also drawing criticism from civil liberties groups, with the ACLU saying the policies present new questions about whether agents are crossing the line and abusing their powers.

The FBI can go through my trash. I burn the incriminating stuff.

Wait, this is a private forum, right? :scared:

The FBI has always had these powers, they're just being formalized. You're kidding yourself if you think they couldn't come up with a legal way of getting what they wanted prior to these 'tweaks'.

It starts with the Patriot Act. That's why so many people were against it in the first place.

It started with the progressive era in the early 1900s. The patrot act is just the most recent chapter in looooooong running book.

It's the information age. Hell, the FBI could do a simple google search, credit check and background check and find out more about anyone here than they could have turned up 25 years ago in a full investigation.

The true measure of character is what one does when not being watched. Unfortunately, now we're always being watched.
