Global Warming Petition

This is a link to a petition signed by over 31,000 scientists who say that global warming is not caused by humans.

Global Warming Petition
We urge the United States government to reject the global warming agreement that was written in Kyoto, Japan in December, 1997, and any other similar proposals. The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind.

There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth.

That petition is a complete joke.

Anybody can sign it, and they do no serious verification of those who sign. You are only supposed to have at least a BA/BS in some science related area which could include math, computers, biology, or even agriculture. How does that qualify you as a "scientist" who knows anything about climate change? Having a BA does not make you a "scientist".

I'm qualified to sign that petition since I have a physics degree. Let's see, how much weather or climate change did I ever study in school? Zero.

They even have a seperate count of PhDs who signed. It doesn't really matter the specialty. Even a doctor or dentist can be counted. My dentist is a smart guy, but he doesn't know anything more about climate change than most people who have read an article or two about it.

I might be impressed once I see a group of real scientists start their own organization to challege human caused climate change. But this isn't it. This is just an attempt to deceive.

Those who tout global warming are not weathermen either! (Al Gore?)
Thanks for pointing that out. It adds validity to the argument that I posted because most of the liberals who support the "global warming' mantra are not educated in the scientific fields. They have degrees in the liberal arts (if they have a degree at all).

Thousands of scientists sign petition against global warming
by Charles Biggs

It’s about time that liberals like Al Gore come up with a new crisis. Global warming (climate change) is running out of steam.

Bob Unruh of WorldNetDaily reported that 31,000 U.S. scientists - 9,000 with doctorate degrees in atmospheric science, climatology, Earth science, environment and other specialties - have signed a petition rejecting global warming.

The list of scientists includes 9,021 Ph.D.s, 6,961 at the master’s level, 2,240 medical doctors and 12,850 carrying a bachelor of science or equivalent academic degree.

Sigh. I think this is the 6th time that I've posted this - some things just never die.

That petition was debunked years ago. Feel free to Google Oregon Petition Debunked for more, but here's a few links:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Petition
http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?ti ... d_Medicine

When questioned in 1998, OISM's Arthur Robinson admitted that only 2,100 signers of the Oregon Petition had identified themselves as physicists, geophysicists, climatologists, or meteorologists, "and of those the greatest number are physicists." This grouping of fields concealed the fact that only a few dozen, at most, of the signatories were drawn from the core disciplines of climate science - such as meteorology, oceanography, and glaciology - and almost none were climate specialists. The names of the signers are available on the OISM's website, but without listing any institutional affiliations or even city of residence, making it very difficult to determine their credentials or even whether they exist at all. When the Oregon Petition first circulated, in fact, environmental activists successfully added the names of several fictional characters and celebrities to the list, including John Grisham, Michael J. Fox, Drs. Frank Burns, B. J. Honeycutt, and Benjamin Pierce (from the TV show M*A*S*H), an individual by the name of "Dr. Red Wine," and Geraldine Halliwell, formerly known as pop singer Ginger Spice of the Spice Girls. Halliwell's field of scientific specialization was listed as "biology." Even in 2003, the list was loaded with misspellings, duplications, name and title fragments, and names of non-persons, such as company names. The current web page of the petition itself states "31,478 American scientists have signed this petition, including 9,029 with PhDs."[15]

and http://www.desmogblog.com/30000-global- ... propaganda

.1% of Signers Have a Background in Climatology

The Petition Project website offers a breakdown of the areas of expertise for those who have signed the petition.

In the realm of climate science it breaks it breaks down as such:

Atmospheric Science (113)

Climatology (39)

Meteorology (341)

Astronomy (59)

Astrophysics (26)

So only .1% of the individuals on the list of 30,000 signatures have a scientific background in Climatology. To be fair we can add in those who claim to have a background in Atmospheric Science, which brings the total percentage of signatories with a background in climate change science to a whopping .5%.

The page does not break out the names of those who do claim to be experts in Climatology and Atmospheric Science, which makes even that .5% questionable [see my section on 'unverifiable mess" below].

This makes an already questionable list seem completely insignificant given the nature of scientific endeavor.

The actual number is much, much lower. Here's one analysis:

The list: http://www.eecg.utoronto.ca/~prall/clim ... table.html

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

Global warming has been debunked years ago. Then the debunking has been debunked. Then the debunking of the debunking has been debunked.

It all depends upon what the heart desires. You accept a debunking by those who hoist this global warming myth upon us. Your sources for the debunking are only valid for you, not me.
And my sources for debunking are only valid for me, not you.
..........and never the twain shall meet.

And where is your "sources" for the debunking of the emails showing the deceit that they use to promote global warming?
