These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read:
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my friend is the beginning of the end of any society

I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.

But I am sure that many liberals feel that Obama is much smarter than Winston Churchill because he uses the words, 'Hope and CHange'! :bash :bash :bash

Look at other proverbs that show the results of diligence in work and the results of laziness. The proverbs, by the way, often come in pairs, in some cases contrasting pairs. First it says one thing and then shows the opposite.

Proverbs 10:4 says: "Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth." One of the results of hard work is financial gain. Many of us have probably experienced that. But for the lazy man poverty is a sure bet.

Proverbs 12:24 says: "Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in slave labor." Those who work hard often do get positions of power while the sluggard gets nowhere.

Proverbs 13:4 says: "The sluggard craves and gets nothing, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied." If you want satisfaction then it would be good to work. There is nothing like the tiredness and satisfaction of a productive, hard day’s work.

In Proverbs 21:5 it says: "The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty." One of the characteristics of the lazy person is that when they must work they are in a hurry to get it done. The quicker one is done the sooner they can sleep some more. But haste makes waste and it shrinks the profit margin.

Proverbs 22:29 says: "Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men." Although this proverb is not a contrasting pair, it does show that those who remain diligent at their work will become skilled and gain position in life. The unskilled get nowhere. The lesson to learn from all these proverbs is that sloth gets you nothing.

Let’s go to another passage in Proverbs where we can look at the character of the sluggard, or the slothful person. The passage in Proverbs 26:13-16 gives us a number of different pictures of the sluggard. It says in verse 13: "The sluggard says, ‘There is a lion in the road, a fierce lion roaming the streets!’" He’s always making excuses. It’s too dangerous; it’s too risky. He acts as if he is the watchman of the people sounding the alarm. He is the wise prophet who knows that it is dangerous out there. There are lions on the street. But how would he know. It is only an excuse to do nothing.

So, all poor people are lazy and sluggards?

Those are fine, but are directed at the individual, not at those who are opposed to assisting the poor. I would recommend the following for those who disparage the poor as all being lazy and sluggards:

"Judge not, that ye be not judged"

"Remember to always be yourself. Unless you can be batman. Then always be batman." Unknown

Great post!! And I beleive in all of those! We should help those less fortunate if we have the means. But I am still looking for the one that says the Government should FORCE you to do it? And that really takes away fromt he whole concept of giving from the heart helping those less fortunate as Jesus did, by our own free will in order to show our generous spirit and love for our fellow human beings. It does not say anywhere that I can see that you have to give to a wasteful government who throw money away frivilously on crap while those less fortunate go hungry. So this post proves my point! Thanks! More money should stay with the people so ....'Proverbs 22:9 A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor.' You can't be generous if you are FORCED to give up money for what has been proven a thousand ways, is just wasteful. In fact it says we should NOT be wasteful in the bible so there is more proof that we should NOT give more to those who waste it like the government. Instead use our own money to help others which I guarantee that I have done 100 times more good with my own money helping others over anything the government can do or has done.

AMEN!! Finally we agree on something!! Let me keep more of my money to help those who need it! If I have $1000 to help people or I am forced to give the government another $1000 to supposedly help people, which one of us will be able to do more good do you think? I can use $1000 and almost all of it will go to really help someone who needs it. The Government forces you to give them that $1000 and about $990 will go to paperwork, bureaucratic waste, and a commercial to put one lady on TV next to Obama who they gave a sandwhich to inorder to make themselves look good, and it will leave so many more hungrey who could have been helped, so then they need to take $100,000 from us just to try and do as much good as we could with 1/100 of what they take. Government is all about heping themselves and their image to get re-elected now. I am all about helping people. You choose who you want to give your money to but I would rather help people, rather than pay another bureaucrat. I believe the way that Jesus did and the way all the scriptures that you posted say. Not being FORCED to give to a wasteful government. I believe in helping people first.
