They saw what they were capable of and kicked their butts to achieve it. There were a few burn outs, but not many in the overall count. There are burn outs, bums and opportunists in every line of work. In my experience there are fewer in the teaching profession than any other.

You are right, there are bad employees in every other kind of work. The difference being, POS employees in the private sector (non unionized) can be flushed instantly, were as a teacher pretty much has to molest a student before they can be fired.

Sad but true.....

Large difference in meaning between the words "may be" and the words "will be", don't you think Kate? What "may" happen as a result of such things and what "does happen" as a result are in many instances not the same thing. I seem to recall something about "rubber rooms" in NYC where around 700 teachers were housed for 3 to 4 years while their misconduct charges were being addressed by a board that met a whopping 5 days a month. Each of them earning well over $70K in salaries, not to mention benefits while still getting summers and all other vacation days that the teachers in the classroom got. No suspension with or without pay for these union members, and no ability to assign them other duties in the school district while the allegations against them are being looked at and investigated and a decision is made whether or not to allow them back into a classroom. Nope, full salary and benefits to sit in a room for 8 hours a day surfing the internet, writing novels or other books or simply staring at the walls. Office work? Please, that's not in their union job description so you can just forget about that.
May be dismissed indeed - when hell freezes over or their appeals run out - whichever occurs first............

In my experience teacherare pretty wellgiven advance notice of dismissal giving them an opportunity to resign. It doesn't mean teachers aren't flushed out, they are just given an opportunity for a graceful exit. Having worked for more than one burn out that sat and read the paper all day I question the presumption that these deadbeats are fired in private industry.

Furthermore, I think a Public Union would just as soon "negotiate" (yeah right) their employees right into a cardboard box in an alley. The public wants compromise, and the unions won't give it. So, you get lay offs and massive furloughs. Serves them right. I'm part of a union, and the cuts are running deep, and you know what? I ain't surprised or pissed off, cause I know how dumbass unions work. I'm thinking about going back to school to work on windmills or solar fields, get outta this mess!

Edit: Course with my luck, all of that industry will be owned by the government in the end! DAMMIT!
