Denver To Vote On Paid Sick Leave.

It would grant employees of most Denver businesses 9 days of sick time per year.

While I like the idea of sick time so that people will stay home instead of working and infecting others, if this passes, might Denver see more employers leave?

And I do think this will easily pass.

Now days there is no sick time. It is call paid time off. It includes both sick and vacation time. So instead of 2 weeks vacation and sick time, you get 4 weeks PTO - and they changed the definition of a week from 7 days to 5 days. I recall when a week was 7 days for time off, but not now.

Imagine what this will do to small businesses if it passes. Think you are already paying too much for goods and services? Prices will go up because small business owners will have no choice but to raise prices to cover the additional overhead expenses. Everyone who is already struggling to get by will shop outside of Denver because the prices are lower, more failed businesses is not what this economy needs.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

I always liked the 3 weeks of flex time, instead of 2 + 1 week of sick time that I hardly used 1-2 days of sick time.

If I was a business owner here is what I would do with these mandates. Calculate the dollar value and deduct it from salary/ wages.

Dear Employee:
Your salary was 44,000 last year. Due to government health care and sick day, and other mandates now included in your pay. Your salary is now 39,000. Any compaints? Talk to your politician.

Signed,
Your Employer.
