I've seen a lot of older republicans cross over into Democrats, but i've never seen it go the other way. I think it's because as you get closer to death you lose that selfishness that is part and parcel of republican ideology. The fear that somebody might be getting something they don't deserve. The unwillingness to share, and to help other people fades away with age...
There are the same on the Dem side, VL. Stereotypes. I have been dealing with them for years.
Why would I go to a different ideology altogether just because some of the issues I believe in are being messed up by the people in charge (they don't speak for me), the core values were there. You just have to decide each issue individually. Just like Dems don't like to be thought of as pot smoking hippies. Rep. should not be thought of as selfish wall street, greedy, religious people. Those are the wing nuts and you can't characterize the whole group that way. It is not fair. For the first time in my life I am becoming an independent. I just don't like not being able to vote in the primary because of it.

It's not something you would all of a sudden declare..I just think most people on their deaths beds are democrats. I don't think too many people diagnosed with terminal cancer are getting all upset about some black single mother getting a little help with her rent. I think as you get older and gain wisdom, you're heart will open up.

Because every thread that VL ends up in turns into a 'why are you a republican' thread. LOL
I would go back on topic but I really have no more to say about the stupid things Denver and Colorado are coming up with to fix the budget crisis. If it would work that would be one thing but it is just making things worse. And trying to figure out what party are these guys? Sarcasm.
