Democrat Janice Hahn defeats Tea Party-backed Craig Huey in California special election
Los Angeles city councilwoman wins House seat; Republicans were hoping for upset that would send a message ahead of 2012 national elections

LOS ANGELES — Democrat Janice Hahn defeated Republican Craig Huey in a bitter contest for a Southern California House seat Tuesday, preserving the party's hold on the district and surviving an unusually tough race in a Democratic stronghold.

With 100 precincts reporting, Hahn, a Los Angeles city councilwoman, had 41,585 votes, or about 55 percent, to 34,636, or about 45 percent, for Huey. Huey's campaign had Tea Party backing.

The campaign was being closely watched by both major parties as a sign of whether normally safe Democratic seats have been left vulnerable by the persistent economic slump.

With a light turnout and widespread voter anxiety over the economy, Republicans were hoping for an upset that would send a message heading toward the 2012 national elections, in which President Barack Obama will seek a second term.

Another TeaParty candidate goes down... like NY26... Watch the Dems come back, and possibly take the House back... The TP is going down...

Oh, and by the way:

Alan Grayson 2012: Former Congressman Announces He's Running Again

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Former U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson who made a name for himself during his two years in Congress with a fiery floor speech attacking the Republican health care plan says he's running again.

The Orlando, Fla., Democrat said of the plan in 2009: "If you get sick, America, the Republican health care plan is this: Die quickly."

He says he filed paperwork with the state Monday to make another run for the U.S. House in 2012. After his single term, he was defeated in 2010 by Republican Dan Webster.

Grayson also ran a campaign ad referring to Webster as "Taliban Dan," comparing Webster's religious fundamentalist views to those in the Middle East.

Grayson back in there would be a hoot!

And in Arizona:

Russell Pearce Recall Election Date Announced By Jan Brewer

PHOENIX -- Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has announced a Nov. 8 recall election for the leader of the state Senate who was the chief sponsor of the state's controversial legislation against illegal immigration.

Brewer's action Tuesday was expected because elections officials certified last week that opponents of Senate President Russell Pearce had collected enough signatures to force the recall election.

Pearce is best known for sponsoring immigration measures, including the 2010 enforcement law known as SB1070. A judge has placed key provisions of that measure on hold while they're challenged in federal court.

Maybe...those who actually want to enforce laws, and live within their means (aka, "Radicals") may go down. Lots of $$ by the special interests are pouring into efforts to destroy these people.

I'd highly doubt dems can win the house again. After they won the supermajority in 2008, then did absolutely nothing to help us get out of this mess, most Americans understand the dem way doesn't work.

Too bad future generations aren't here to see all the great things we are spending their $$ on!!

And most Americans are figuring out that the Tea Partiers are more interested in bomb-throwing & ideology than governing, and they've had enough.

LJ, to post a Democrap winning in California as newsworthy, is like saying a communist won an election in China.

The silent majority will be silent no more.

:yeahthat:
Trumpeting a victory on a safe California seat is something to be proud of.

The most poorly governed state in the country elects more Dems? How can this be?

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

For AZ I would question the signatures. I would have to wonder if they were all legit. How do we know they were all American citizens. That is the problem with all of this. Both Parties need to pass a law on this that makes the voter provide proof of citizenship.
