So much for GOP not being bigots!

The leading candidate for the Republican presidential nomination is an out and out bigot, yet no Republicans call her out on it. Her church is on the record as saying that the Pope is the anti-christ :

"Bachmann was a longtime member of the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stillwater, Minn., which belongs to the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), a council of churches founded in 1850 that today comprises about 400,000 people. WELS is the most conservative of the major Lutheran church organizations, known for its strict adherence to the writings of Martin Luther, the German priest and theologian who broke with the Catholic Church and launched the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century. This includes endorsing Luther's statements about the papacy. From the WELS "Doctrinal Statement on the Antichrist":
Since Scripture teaches that the Antichrist would be revealed and gives the marks by which the Antichrist is to be recognized, and since this prophecy has been clearly fulfilled in the history and development of the Roman Papacy, it is Scripture which reveals that the Papacy is the Antichrist."

Cue the Reverend Wright deflection points.

She has often referred to gays as being part of Satan, being barbarians and her husband counsels those "barbarians" with discipline and education to convert them to heterosexuality.

And yet the Republicans love her, despite in three terms in Congress not sponsoring any legislation of note.

Michelle is polling in the low 20's in a border state. Not exactly a glowing endorsement from Republican voters. If they really loved her, she would be in the 50's at least.

And as for the church background, (Rev. Wright anyone?) I am Catholic but I disagree with my church on a number of issues including married and female priests and birth control. Who knows Michele's take on the issues highlighted in your post?

No R candidate is going to be that high this early. Remember the "Seven Dwarfs" Dem candidates a few years ago? All of them had low numbers until after the first few caucuses & primaries.

But she should be polling much higher considering that Iowa is a socially conservative, rural state. I do need to check the latest polls out of New Hampshire but I am betting she is only polling 10% there.

(Sorry - you added this after I posted.)

So, can we take from your comment that even though a person sits in a pew, they do not necessarily agree with what is being said from the pulpit?

have you noticed how gay her husband is? in a Larry Craig kind of way?

(and I don't mean that being gay is bad, I mean that he is bad for saying you can pray away the gay and he is - just weird)

I think they call it self loathing homophobe syndrome; like that preacher here in CO... what was his name?
