This wasn't just a FB hit job. There are many links all over on this story. And I DON'T believe SNOPES on themselves. It was sarcastic! That is like having a defendent be his own jury. They are so stupid!
I'm sure the Right would just love to wish Snopes away because without it, all those lying forwarded emails, all the outrageous claims put out there in the blogosphere and on Fox News, would just go unchallenged.
They obviously like living in a mendacious echo chamber, where only their own opinions are heard, where their prejudices go unchallenged, where all facts that might contradict their twisted worldview cannot penetrate.
They can't come up with serious challenges to the accuracy of Snopes, so they try to attack it by somehow linking it to someone they've already demonized. Why not just claim Satan himself is financing it? The whackjobs would probably believe it. And what's the difference if you tell one lie or another? These people have already demonstrated that what they want to believe is never going to be affected by fact-checking anyway. If they want to believe Obama is a Muslim, than By God, he is a Muslim, any evidence to the contrary.
