Fed up with John Mauldin...

John Mauldin is a big dollar financial manager. He handles funds for individuals who are worth 1.5 million or more.

For about 3 years, I subscribed to his newsletter.

Today - I decided I'm fed up with him.

Mauldin's analysis is indifferent. I suppose that any good analyst separates his emotions from the facts - but the fact is that our economy is bleeding - and he's the indifferent doctor - staring at the wound, saying "wow - I've never seen a wound like that, before.... interesting...."

Mauldin regularly brags about his global travels, and unashamedly beams about enjoying luxuries like cuban cigars or fine whiskey. He's gratuitously, apologetically indulgent.

I was trained in old school capitalism. My degree is in economics and statistics - from a school that is proud of capitalism (Chicago).

That said - I'm becoming really offended by people like Mauldin.

I likely fit on the upper end of the middle class:
- I have a passport
- I use my passport
- I own two cars, a motorcycle, and a pop-up camper - all without liens.
- I am a landlord

I don't think we should be indifferent to what's happening in America.

Mauldin sits back and says, "It's not my job to save the world....." But it's people with astounding levels of wealth (his clients) - who have the capacity to do just that.

Sorry - less time at the cigar bar --- and more time at the local shelter or food bank --- that's what I think Mauldin should be doing --- and telling his clients they should do.

I understand wealth and capitalism --- but right now, is the time for compassion and empathy.

Interesting...

I agree with you totally... Unfortunately, "compassion and empathy" are totally missing from the Party of Selfish these days.

I see your point, though I don't believe John Mauldin in any way represents the average business person. I also wouldn't agree that liberals OR democrats have the corner on the market of compassion and empathy.

In the end, most of us DO care about our Nation and our needy. Where we depart is when we get to the triage phase of the operation. We can make make villains of those trying to make those tough decisions and tough "cuts"...but we should be thankful that SOMEONE is up to the task of leadership. Good leadership isn't about being everyone's bestus buddy....good leadership about doing the right thing EVEN when the masses are howling about the decision.

Excuse me if I sound cynical......in general,I find it extremely difficult finding individuals who will "do the right thing"......whether that be
in government,OR in the general populace. APATHY is more the sentiment these days,or if you will, detachment. JMO
