Is Texas Gov. Rick Perry the New Reagan?

Let's get the facts straight here. He was tired of the out of control Federal Government and said if it doesn't change, Texas MAY want to Secede From Union But Probably Won't. It was just like Obama the other day out of frustration saying he was tired of fighting with congress and would want to just ignore them go it alone and pass the bills. No action was ever taken on either one. People keep using that strawman and it is a non issue. Heck Alec Baldwin said he would leave America if Bush got re-elected. Die he? no. People say a lot when frustrated with poor management. To be honest if this nation keeps going backwards and may become property of China, I would move to a state that would sucede in a heartbeat! The ones giving this nation away are far more treasonous and un-American than those who are frustrated and say they would consider leaving this mess.

Governor Says Texans May Want to Secede From Union But Probably Won't

An animated Perry told the crowd at Austin City Hall -- one of three tea parties he was attending across the state -- that officials in Washington have abandoned the country's founding principles of limited government. He said the federal government is strangling Americans with taxation, spending and debt.

Perry repeated his running theme that Texas' economy is in relatively good shape compared with other states and with the "federal budget mess." Many in the crowd held signs deriding President Barack Obama and the $786 billion federal economic stimulus package.

Later, answering news reporters' questions, Perry suggested Texans might at some point get so fed up they would want to secede from the union, though he said he sees no reason why Texas should do that.

"There's a lot of different scenarios," Perry said. "We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that. But Texas is a very unique place, and we're a pretty independent lot to boot."

What does that issue have to do with fixing our economy and creating jobs which should be first and foremost on everyones list when picking a candidate. And also, HE doesn't have any say in writing an amendment to make marriage betwen an man and a woman. It is all up to congress and 2/3 would have to pass it and then 38 states have to sign it to agree with it. It is a non issue and won't happen! FOCUS on the important things that ARE happening! NO JOBS! High unemployment. terrible economy. Companies leaving the US left and right or else going to Texas because they know how to attract businesses and jobs.

Dear Dr. Laura,

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific laws and how to best follow them.

a) When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

b) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

c) I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

d) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

e) I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

f) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an Abomination (Lev 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

g) Lev 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

h) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev 19:27. How should they die?

i) I know from Lev 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

j) My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev 24:10-16) Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help.

Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

Your devoted disciple and adoring fan.

Yes indeed, that "eating of shellfish" and wearing "polyester blends" is going to be a problem for the pickers-&-choosers.

Educate yourself instead of looking ignorant by trying to be funny. Why are you just quoting the Old Testemant when the Old covennt was fulfilled when Jesus died on the Cross and the New Covenant was born and written. http://www.plim.org/3douknow.html

We all have different criteria for how we choose our candidates and for whom we vote. Are you seriously telling me how I should be evaluating my choice for President?

BTW, Viking, I am aware that the President does not write the amendment, but he does have a leadership position in steering the direction of our country. Personally, I think that Perry shouldn't be talking about an amendment to the Constitution which will take away rights of the citizens. Now, if you don't think that's important, then that's your call to make. To me, it speaks volumes about who is Rick Perry and where he wants to steer this country.

If that's true, then why include the Old Testament in the Bible? Why not just throw out that portion and tell everyone that "we just don't follow that stuff anymore" rather than keep it in there and then cherry pick which portions to follow?

They certainly don't have any problem quoting Lev. & Deut. about it when it suits them... Duh! That was the point of the piece...

Please tell me you guys aren't that stupid, and you don't think I'M stupid enough to know that your b.s. response would be "Oh, we only believe in the New Testament."

Bullcrap... You quote whatever you want to, when it suits you.. But pointing out your hypocrisy is 90% of the fun....

Know what's really telling about this particular lie? Every single time the question is put to the voters, the majority of whom according to you support gay marriage, the issue gets voted down, even in regressive enclaves like California. Why would this be true if what you say is true Kate?

We all know how well it turned out the last time we elected a cheerleader to the Oval Office.

That is why we are trying to vote him and his rah rah rah Hope and change out in 2012.

I'm pretty sure she was talking about an actual cheerleader in college...

Perhaps this is why Viking is so impressed with Perry

Rick Perry's College Transcript: A Lot Of Cs And Ds

One reason that might explain his hostility toward the system: He didn't do very well in it. A source in Texas passed The Huffington Post Perry's transcripts from his years at Texas A&M University. The future politician did not distinguish himself much in the classroom. While he later became a student leader, he had to get out of academic probation to do so. He rarely earned anything above a C in his courses -- earning a C in U.S. History, a D in Shakespeare, and a D in the principles of economics. Perry got a C in gym.

Perry also did poorly on classes within his animal science major. In fall semester 1970, he received a D in veterinary anatomy, a F in a second course on organic chemistry and a C in animal breeding. He did get an A in world military systems and “Improv. of Learning” -- his only two As while at A&M.

"A&M wasn't exactly Harvard on the Brazos River," recalled a Perry classmate in an interview with The Huffington Post. "This was not the brightest guy around. We always kind of laughed. He was always kind of a joke."

A spokesperson for the governor recently told the Texas Tribune that the university "helped shape who he is today." The governor’s office did not return a request for comment from The Huffington Post.
