Atmospheric Science, Climate Change and Carbon – Some Facts

17 Aug 2011 15:00 #11 by Rockdoc
This presentation by Dr. Salby challenges the first argument made by the AGW side that CO2 is causing the warming we are experiencing. His study demonstrates otherwise. Salby is arguing that atmospheric CO2 increase that we observe is a product of temperature increase, and not the other way around, meaning it is a product of natural variation.

Denial of AGW is not a popularity contest, nor is it a statement against taking responsibility for ones pollution issues (as we simply do not yet know the impact of our activities), but it is based on what the actual data does or does not support. Science is a search for truth. The data are interpreted and interpretations are subject to debate because often they must be made on incomplete data sets. What dismays me is the that if you can't attack the data, or present a viable argument that justifies adjustments in the data, then proponents shift to attacking character of the scientists. If there is even a casual connection to the oil industry, it automatically discredits anything that scientist may have to say. That truly is laughable in its absurdity.

For every scientist pro AGW there is one (and data) against it. We can (and have lol ) do this all day long, but personally, I'd rather enjoy the kids last few days before school starts. But hey, that's just me. Knock yourself out!

Apology accepted. As an aside, my interest in this topic is merely to understand the science. The more I dig, the more issues I see. And it is a lot of fun digging into original publications and then comparing them to either the IPCC summaries or later papers where the original data somehow has gotten distorted in a way that helps to overstate AGW. Unfortunately, the gig is up as more and more scientists involved with IPCC are distancing themselves from the same organization.

Do you have any sources for that allegation? Because I simply have not found that to be true, but am willing to be educated.
