How many police officers does Park County need for you to feel safe, including the towns?

Does anyone know how many FT equiliv. officers we have?

Not trying to kill the PD, but I was curious what the right ratio was and what variables are used to make such a call officially and what variables would you use. We often debate the level of our police state and in CO there is a higher cop presence than other places I go, but is that just cause we don't have many trees?

Ideally I would love to see a formula, like

population/2000 + density per sq mile/6 + violent crime rate last year per 1000 x 4

or something like that. Such a thing would show what should influence this number.

Also curious who makes this decision in any community.

Oh well, frankly I would rather not contact any because they might shoot and kill you, I can think of one bozo right off the bat, rather than help. They don't make me feel safe. I feel safer in South America than I do in ParkCO.

I didn't vote. You also have to take into account response times and distances within the county.

I don't worry about them shooting me but I wouldn't be very likely to call them in the first place. Even more if we hired a bunch of rookies.

5 to cover South Park sounds about right, maybe only 2 at night.

When we moved here I think we only had 3, counting the Sherriff.

So there are three law enforcement entities in Fairplay:

The Sheriff's Department
The Fairplay Municipal (Town) Police
The Colorado State Patrol (CSP)

I have no idea how many people there are on patrol for each entity...but there absolutely is no cop around when you need them. For the whole of Park County, including the two incorporated municipalities (Alma and Fairplay) and all the area, I believe 10 to 20 with half of that patrolling is fine. Maybe more on 285 as people go crazy fast and make dangerous moves on that road...

to me and mine it's NOT the QUANITY so much as it is the QUALITY of the officers that Park County needs. We probably could get by with less than 20 if they were WELL TRAINED, DISSAPLINED, ETHICAALLY SOUND AND MORALLY DECENT type folks.. It would make for a better community I feel. But then you have to look at who is in charge , they can only be as good as the (so called Bosses)!!
