He only lost 150 votes and trounced the rest of the field . I watched all the morning shows and not a word or interview. Whats up with that? Is he the crazy uncle that the republicans don't want to discuss?
The congressman and presidential hopeful, whose warnings on the economy brought eye rolls four years ago, now hears validation from other candidates. He could shake up the GOP contest.
<snip>
At Thursday's GOP debate in Ames, Iowa, where several candidates called for auditing the Federal Reserve, Paul acknowledged the shift. "I'm delighted that mainstream is catching up with this these days for auditing the Fed," he said. "This is great."
It's quite a change from four years ago, when Paul made similar statements during a 2008 GOP debate as rivals John McCain and Mitt Romney smirked and appeared to be fighting laughter in the background.
The media has mostly ignored his close 2nd. I don't get it , if it was anyone else they would be falling all over him. He spent less than 10% of Bachman.
Well, every story about Bachman's finish that I've read has mentioned Paul coming in a close second. But Paul has run twice before, so he's a known quantity to most people. If I had to guess, I'd say they're focusing on the newer, less known -- and more controversial -- candidates.
McCain came in almost last in the straw poll the year he was nominated to be the GOP candidate; so I don't think they mean much. It just seems more of a "tradition". From what I understand, these votes are bought, literally, by the candidates. I think Iowa will become less and less relevant in years to come.
