Science Forum?

I think it would put this forum further down the road of compartmentalizing too much. If you split out too many specific subjects, I would lose interest. I've rarely poked my head in the campfire or anywhere else on this board.

I agree with TM. With a forum this size, people gravitate to one or two areas. There are all kinds of non-political topics in the courthouse, and it seems to work ok. Other areas are ignored. Now if we had 10million members, it would be necessary to compartmentalize more to find anything.

Besides, science was not so political until Al Gore came along and made it so. Just dump him instead! :)

Then you are missing some of the best things on the board. You really should check out "View active topics" or "View new posts" to see some of what you are missing.

My thoughts on a separate science forum is that it would be more open to those who do not frequent the Courthouse due to their perception that the Courthouse tends to be the same posters with the same repetitive posts reflecting their political biases. Further, it does not have to be centered around AGW debate, but could be more receptive to other thoughts on scientific topics that are not necessarily debatable but would be of interest. Of course those posts could be brought in the Campfire, but having them centered in a single forum might be more accessible. It might also give rise to a different persona for 285Bound other than an entrenched debating society between a few posters constantly repeating their biases.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

I think a science forum is a great idea; and leaving politics out of it might lead to more thought and less hyperbole.

That said, I agree with bailey bud: I'm not sure that scientists have considered the idea that our planet is not a static entity. Like everything else in the universe, it's going to change. Is what we're seeing happening because of us? Because of what is happening to our sun star? Because of something we haven't even identified yet, and have misidentified as human damage?

We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give. - Sir Winston Churchill
