After a neighbor asked me to start attending the Elk Creek Fire board meetings, I thought I would do some question askin' to see what the heck was happening over there.
I was so shocked when I found out that the Chief is married to the District Administrator and they approve each others paychecks. Who is watching that process? Seems like there should be a law or a rule or something.
Local politics can be interesting. On the national level, there seems to be enough scrutiny by the press and whistleblowers to keep a check on corruption, but who watches the locals.
Your story reminds me of the Aurora leaders who were getting kickbacks from the paving contractors.
I am a buyer and sometimes see kickbacks offered but my buys are a lot smaller than local or city goverments. Must be be very tempting to cheat.
