One Week Into His Campaign, Rick Perry Disavows His Book

22 Aug 2011 08:39 #1 by Wayne Harrison
Last November, Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) published Fed Up, a 240-page ode to tentherism, which argues that everything from child labor laws to the Clean Air Act to Medicare violates the Constitution. As it turns out, however, claiming that America’s entire social safety net is unconstitutional isn’t a very popular position -- so Perry’s now trying to take it all back just one week into his presidential campaign.

Yes, and he's such a "patriot", and "loves America"... (Was that before or after he wanted to secede from the Union?)

lol Gov. Perry better hope Palin gets into the race soon (Labor Day?), it looks like the full court press on Rick has started.

Yeah, it gets harder and harder to hide from your own record.

It never stopped with Obama. Been that way since he was running.

Why should a candidate on the right be treated differently?

One of the reasons Obama won? Because he didn't have a record to run on as an executive.

Why Elena Kagan won her nomination? Because she was as quiet as she could be about her personal beliefs.

Why the Dem Congress didn't submit a budget before the 2010 election? So that they wouldn't pass anything unpopular.

It will be interesting to see if more non-involved politicians win out over those who are actually willing to take unpopular views. Perry back-tracking from his book is a sign that his campaign handlers are putting him into line.

Or that he wasn't thinking of running for President when he wrote it.

It's easy to take pot shots from the sidelines. It's harder when you step up and try to win voters.

I'm still waiting for an answer to my question:

If he's such a "patriot", and "loves America"... (Was that before or after he wanted to secede from the Union?)

I am not a Perry supporter. I am still undecided about the current crop. In fact, the RNC called up last night asking for money and my wife told them to call us back when you have some better choices.

Is Michelle Obama a patriot when she says her husband's election was the first time she was ever proud to be an American?

Nice deflection... Irrelevant... You weren't asked if you were a Perry supporter.
