Nearly 40 percent of Europeans suffer mental illness

LONDON (Reuters) - Europeans are plagued by mental and neurological illnesses, with almost 165 million people or 38 percent of the population suffering each year from a brain disorder such as depression, anxiety, insomnia or dementia, according to a large new study.

European-style, nanny-state, liberal-socialism is the ideal Our Dear Leader wants for America. Yet, coupled with the previous German study I linked to in June, this study adds even more evidence indicating that liberal socialism, as practiced throughout Europe, is literally driving more and more people crazy. http://www.backwoodshome.com/blogs/OliverDelSignore/

From the yahoo article:

"major brain disorders from anxiety and depression to addiction to schizophrenia, as well as major neurological disorders including epilepsy, Parkinson's and multiple sclerosis."

I also read in that same article that the study included insomnia and even senile dementia. This is painting with such a broad brush that it has almost no meaning, and trying to link up all of these disorders to a sociological cause like "liberal socialism" is totally absurd.

I mean, seriously, how could anyone try to blame epilepsy or MS or Parkinson's or Alzheimers on politics with a straight face?

Perhaps the Europeans have more complete numbers on mentally ill because their health care systems are for all citizens and they have a better grasp of what's going on with their citizens.

I don't see where you are getting "not according to the article."

Are you saying that 40% with mental problems is normal?

With only about a third of cases receiving the therapy or medication needed,

Those few receiving treatment do so with considerable delays of an average of several years and rarely with the appropriate, state-of-the-art therapies."

tells me they just did a study without the help of a healthcare system, that actually cares about it's people.

No. Where would you get that idea?

2 out of 5 people. I find it hard to believe.

Yes, if you consider diagnoses like MS and Parkinson and insomnia to be "mental problems".
