Sometimes talking with liberals is perplexing. You never know what claim they will make next or what name they will call you. Take David Axelrod’s response to Standard & Poor’s recent credit action: He calls it the “Tea Party downgrade.” Amazingly, he blames the United States’ loss of its AAA bond rating on the one group that has sounded the alarm about our fiscal crisis. How did the president’s leading adviser come up with a label so detached from reality?

Comforting as it would be to dismiss this as a one-off comment, Axelrod’s words spring from the mental universe of liberalism. It is a vast sphere of assumptions that are found nowhere else. In an effort to promote the civility of debate that is so much in demand these days, here is a compendium of the myths underlying some of the strange things liberals say.

Soooo...let's bring up yet another article that promotes this division, uncivility, false assumptions and sh***y stereotypes that liberals say, yet again (and never mind that conservatives do it too - PrintSmith for example still can't believe that us liberals are for working for a paycheck without just having it handed to us, even when it's spelled out in black and white).

Myth #1: Conservatives are outside the American mainstream. Nope, neither are liberals. Like it or not, it's always been this way and we are stuck in this together - either bash or find a way to compromise.
Myth #2: Conservatives represent special interests. Again, no. Plenty of radical left special interest groups that are just as f***** in the head.
Myth #3: The Republican party is moving to the right More like the Republican party is losing its ideals that align with what the public wants.
etc etc etc

This is productive how? This solves our problems how?

Never mind, I'm just in a crappy mood...carry on with the divisive partisanship... :bash It's so much more fun than discussing ideas that we flood our reps with and start taking our democracy back.

Science Chic, your post is a left-handed way of saying that conservatives are divisive.
How very divisive of you!

No, I'm saying that ALL sides right now are being divisive - look at how well our representatives work together, and how little grandstanding and posturing they do? (that was sarcasm, BTW) - what I'm saying is that articles like this do nothing to solve the problems, they just re-hash what's wrong. Instead of actually learning what either side believes by listening, they base it on ridiculous assumptions they read about in stories like this, then can't change their minds when presented with opposing viewpoints that don't jive. Unless we get out of this mindset, we will never better ourselves. Look at the Maxine Waters thread <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href=" 285bound.com/Forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=14098 " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">viewtopic.php?f=6&t=14098<!-- l --> - I posted an article that all sides should've been able to ponder and agree with several points, but instead of decent, productive dialog, we got 13 additional posts of bashing other posters and ignoring that article. I'm not saying that I'm all that and a bag of chips, or that any of my stuff needs to be read in-depth and commented on, but it's pretty telling when people prefer to bash each other than discuss an idea that might actually improve our economy.

Very few seem interested in trying to figure out what our next step should be. It's easier to bash and blame the other side. Very few Democrats are willing to own what Obama has done to increase the deficit just as very few Republicans are willing to own Bush's irresponsible profligacy.

What is lacking in political discussion is honesty. Most political discussion is lies, bluff, distortion, and name calling. There is absolutely no consideration of reality or fact. Liberals just cannot be reasoned with! (A little humor.)

Bush was not a conservative. He was an opportunist and a big government guy.

I think you're missing the point SC. This is not about our little community, it's about those people who have a national microphone onthe left who are suppose to be "above" all the violent and divisive rhetoric. Remember the AZ shootings and the immediate blaming of right wing "violent rhetoric" ? This is just a reminder to liberals that the hate spewers are coming more from the left these days.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

So, you admit that prior to "lately", the hate spewers were coming mostly from the right... Thanks for finally admitting that.

Like I said, everyone on the right wants to disavow all knowledge of his actions, but we voted for him. Some of us twice. (but not me, i hopped off the party train after his first term.). Anyone who voted for him holds responsibility for his debts just as those who voted for Obama are responsible for his. Grow a set people and take responsiblity for your votes.
