GOP Gov Behind Anti-Immigrant Legislation Admits Grandparents Were Undocumented

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, who has drawn national attention and criticism from immigrant groups for trying to stop undocumented immigrants from getting driver's licenses, has acknowledged her paternal grandparents came to the U.S. undocumented.

"I know they arrived without documents, especially my father's father," the Republican said Wednesday in an interview in Spanish with KLUZ-TV, the Albuquerque Univision affiliate.

Reports about Martinez's grandfather coming across the border undocumented have surfaced numerous times over the past few years. The governor's office has largely dodged directly answering questions about the issue, saying Martinez was unsure of his status since he abandoned the family when her father was young.

Her comments Wednesday appeared to be the first time she has answered the question definitively.

Missing the point as always. LJ, stop the illegals from burdening our systems, create a decent guest worker program for the jobs Americans can't or won't do.

The silent majority will be silent no more.

LJ, it would be hypocritical if the governor actually played a roll in her grandparent's illegal immigration. Obviously, she wasn't even born yet. So since her grandparents broke the law, she should be exempt from enforcing that law?

So if her grandparents were tax cheats, enforcing tax laws would also be hypocritical? You need to get a life....she's doing what her constituants hired her to do no matter what her grandparents did a century ago.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Have to agree that this isn't hypocritical.

If I was a politician and knew my grandfather had committed murder, I would try to keep that quiet and still support jailing people for murder.

Really? You wouldn't push for prosecution?

Sure I would support his prosecution if he hadn't been convicted.
