ZAPATA COUNTY, Texas -- With a Mexican navy helicopter whirring low over a rural community on the U.S. side of the Rio Grande, an American military veteran armed with marksmanship skills and a hefty rifle hankered from the ground to shoot it down.

"Don't do it," Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez Jr. recalled warning the man on that Sunday afternoon last year.

The Mexican could be flying cover for a drug lord - he violated US airspace.......the FEDS should have taken him out. Civilians should not be involved - novice cowboys not welcomed.

The U.S. has been surreptitiously flying Predator drones over Mexico for two years to help gather intelligence about drug trafficking.

There is a 20-year history of U.S. government aircraft flying over Mexican territory in pursuit of drug activity.
