I prefer my fishing pole to the government fish.
Becky.....do you have the means to save your home when a major fire comes through....or will you call the fire department?
If you have a heart attack at home....can you save yourself....or will you call 911?
Nice simplistic try archer....not gonna bite.
You already bit Becky with your snarky comment about preferring your fishing pole to getting a fish.....I suggest you start taking fire fighting lessons, medical training (it only took my daughter 4 years of school and 2 years of specialized training to become a 911 medic qualified to save your life) and self defense training. Then you can snub your nose at the government employees who protect you. The hostility here towards those who serve and protect is mind blowing. What about our troops......do you want them to buy their own equipment too?
Wow...a lot of assumptions made by you archer.
Where did I snub anyone other than the folks who believe the government should fix all that is wrong in their world?
Assumptions are par for the course with the left though.
I will ask you.......where did I snub government workers.
You should be proud of your daughter. A question.....did the government help pay for any of her education or did you use your fishing pole to cover it?

The state of Texas supplies money to the local communities for fire fighting...the forest service is part of the state budget....both have seen their budgets cut and they are struggling to pay for the enormous costs of fighting these huge fires. Consequently the firefighters don't have what they need. Its a good thing the Federal government is picking up the slack don't you think?
It's amazing to me the twists and spin you will use just to prove me wrong. This isn't about me... The next time we have a fire near our own community, and we will....would you be so approving of cutting funds to fight fires if it effects your local firefighters? Would you expect them to buy their own equiptment to save your home? Well hell...maybe you should all fight your own fires....what do we need fire departments for anyway? Every man for himself right?
But you are the one who brought up this whole thing ie. the comparison with private industry and belittled the very valid reasons jf1acai gave. I simply responded to your post. Let's face it, your response like that if the article's sole purpose it to make a political statement. None of you socialists can ever accept an alternative view point to your own. How unfortunate there are dissenting views and valid reasons why the BIG government is not needed.
BTW. We did have a fire near our community and guess what? The local community pitched in to help fire fighters meet their needs.
I can tell you this where the military was concerned......my son did use his own fishing pole to be as prepared as he could be to defend you. He used his own initiative to step up. The Marines did provide him with the basics.
The Marines have a motto that private citizens might want to adopt.....
"Adapt and Overcome"
and as I recall.....the Hayman Fire was a perfect example of the community stepping up to provide our first responders with radios, parts for their trucks, generators, food, water or anything else they needed in a time of crisis.
We didn't sit and wait for the government to provide for all our needs.

wow....you got to call me a socialist.....yet I am sure a man of your education knows what a socialist is and also knows that none of the liberals here are socialists. But it feels good to call us one doesn't it.
Yes how fortunate indeed that there are opposing views, people who think that the place to cut costs is not where it will hurt the very people who are hired to protect and serve us. Thank goodness there are some who recognize that government does have a purpose, and, for all it's faults, the government, federal, state, and local does a damn good job of providing law enforcement, fire protection, and first responders in emergencies. Thank goodness there are some who support those employees of the government that serve and protect us.
what assumptions...it's all been posted right here for those who care to read it. Go back to the OP.....that cost cuts in Texas have some firemen buying their own equipment out of their own pockets......that their safety has been compromised by cost cutting across the state......and you tell me....is that good thing? Some are volunteers....yet they should buy their own equipment? you think they are so well paid they can afford this? Do you have any idea how expensive some of this equipment is?
I am, however, amused at the lengths that some posters will go to prove a liberal wrong.,.....even if the whole idea of support for first responders.....and by extension, the military, as they are also government employees, would usually be something they would support. Just not if that support is promoted by the "enemy" liberals.
