Record Homosexuals Appointed by Obama

WASHINGTON -- Less than halfway through his first term, President Barack Obama has appointed more openly gay officials than any other president in history.
Gay activists say the estimate of more than 150 appointments so far -- from agency heads and commission members to policy officials and senior staffers -- surpasses the previous high of about 140 reached during two full terms under President Bill Clinton.
"From everything we hear from inside the administration, they wanted this to be part of their efforts at diversity," said Denis Dison, spokesman for the Presidential Appointments Project of the Gay & Lesbian Leadership Institute.

Gay activists, among Obama's strongest supporters, had hoped he would be the first to appoint an openly gay Cabinet secretary. While that hasn't happened -- yet -- Obama did appoint the highest-ranking gay official ever when he named John Berry as director of the Office of Personnel Management, which oversees the nation's 1.9 million federal workers.
Other prominent names include Nancy Sutley, chairwoman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, and Fred Hochberg, chairman of the Export-Import Bank. Obama also named Amanda Simpson, the first openly transgender appointee, as a senior technical adviser in the Commerce Department.
White House spokesman Shin Inouye confirmed the record number, saying Obama has hired more gay officials than the Clinton and George W. Bush administrations combined. He said Obama "is proud that his appointments reflect the diversity of the American public."

Must suck to get a federal government job because you can suck and nothing else. Gives a whole new meaning to a firm action. When we start defining our workforces by sexuality we have lost all morality - explains Hollywood - I know.

Yeah, I know....it sucks to be a homophobic in today's world, all those gay people getting good appointments. Annoying isn't it.

RT:

Archer and LJ, quite a pair. They just love to jump on you for picking on their lifestyle of choice. You have to learn to be more tolerant and understanding. They can't help it.

Thanks Nmysys,

It's too bad they are public liars. If they are comfortable telling young men and women that perversion is a safe healthy lifestyle then they are just as perverted as those participating in the lie.

The key words here are "openly gay". I am betting the same percentage of homosexuals in goverment as ever, just now they are more open about it. (Unless they are Republican politicians.)

BTW, has Elena Kagan come out of the closet yet? She could be the first openly homosexual Supreme Court Justice. (Not that there is anything wrong with it.)

political appointments - particularly Cabinet-level secretary appointments --- are very thoroughly vetted.

I'm certain that a gay person has been a member of the cabinet - and I'm certain the president knew about it.

I don't really care - as long as the appointee does his/her job.

GW appointed enough gays to get the so-called family organizations grumbling.

America has tried queer and anti-queer politics before --- I'm not interested.

Herman Cain: I’d tap gay cabinet members because they wouldn’t impose Sharia law

Republican 2012 presidential candidate Herman Cain, who was recently criticized for saying he wouldn’t permit Muslims in his cabinet, says he wouldn’t have a problem with openly gay appointees.

“Nope, not at all. I wouldn’t have a problem with that at all,” Cain told ThinkProgress at an event in Iowa. “I want them qualified, I want them to basically believe in the Constitution of the United States of America. So, yup, I don’t have a problem with appointing an openly gay person.”

(I wonder if the headline writer knows what "tap" is slang for?)
