In the US the laws on the books address libel and slander and not much more. If hate speech is going to be addressed and punishments dealt for it then let's take a look at the laws that are in effect.

I am not in favor of hate speech (I hope nothing I have ever posted is seen as such) but oppose any law that tries to define or regulate it.

"Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? is a Latin phrase traditionally attributed to the Roman poet Juvenal from his Satires (Satire VI, lines 347–8), which is literally translated as "Who will guard the guards themselves?" Also sometimes rendered as "Who watches the watchmen?",

I don't disagree, I just find myself wishing for a more expedient method of dealing with those who are in violation of the law or violation of accepted of what I regard to be moral sensibilities under current common standards.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

I'm a troll.

If I see someone getting all bent out of shape about some inconsequential thing, I'll play devil's advocate just to keep the fires burning. It's something I enjoy. I don't do it to be malicious, I simply provide a good solid backstop that nutcases can use to play their games of handball.

I can see there being problems if the trolling is done in order to hurt someone. That's malicious. But a non-malicious troll can take an ordinary thread and turn it rapidly into a riviting read.

There is no way to quantify 'moral sensibilities', so I'll agree with those that feel a malicious troll's punishment for going too far should just be a good physical beatdown by the victim or their assigns.

Some people also confuse trolling with baiting.

Oh well I'm definitely not a troll and really resent being associated with a clinical physiological disorder like that. Here's my Pie Chart

87% Sincere
10% Joking
3% Feigning outrage
1% Misspelling

Semantics. I'd always considered trolling to be a harmless activity, and was surprised to see it used to describe malicious personal abuse.
