"Joe McGinniss ’s new book on Sarah Palin has had a surprisingly strong backlash from the left, as Politico reports this morning. Most of the focus has been on this unfavorable New York Times review by Janet Maslin, but even progressive activists have been jumping to Palin’s defense.
“If male political figures were subject to the cataloging of hookups and reverie from their young-and-single years as Sarah Palin apparently is in this book, these invasions of privacy and dignity would stop. I am no fan of her politics, but she doesn’t deserve this gossip,” wrote Adam Bonin, the chairman of Netroots Nation on Politico’s Arena yesterday.
My feeling on this book is that it's a bunch of largely irrelevent crap about a largely irrelevent candidate. I really don't care who Palin may or may not have dallied with or even if she smoked pot or did cocaine, because I really don't care about Palin. But if you're going to put yourself out there as a person as wholesome as mom and apple pie, if there's dirt in your past you can bet someone's going to fling it.
how much dirt is truth or just a bunch of lies to sell a book? I do care when someones being attacked to sell a book..sounds like this guy has some issues..JMTCW
There are probably a lot of very capable individuals who do not run for public office because of the intense scrutiny. It is easy enough to vet a candidate on their actions and their words, I just don't see the sense in digging deep into their past for something to trash them with. Sarah Palin included. I don't much like her politics, and I have seen enough of her actions and words while a candidate to make that decision for myself.....who gives a flip who she dated, or what she did as younger woman before her political career. About the only thing I think is relevent from a candidate's distant past may be their education, and even that shouldn't be dug into beyond the fact that they have a degree and what it is....and how they have utilized that degree. One thing Perry has done is take a mediocre degree from a mediocre university and turn it into a very successful political career.....at least so far.
I heard this Joe McGinniss leach- I mean "author" stooped so low as to move in next door to Palin in Alaska.
What a dirtbag.
Last I knew- if you make an accusation like this about someone that isn't true- and you can't prove it's true- it's slander and against the law- except if you are a public figure like Palin.
BS. Public figures file for slander all the time. If there is money in it for a lawsuit, Palin will go for it if the accusations are false (Depending of course on how well the book does $$$$$). If she doesn't at least show some denial it will look like the truth.
It isn't slander till it's proven to be false....and with the guy saying it happened, I think it's unlikely there will be a slander suit. Best to take the high road and ignore it.
Stupid stuff gets written into books every day by someone trying to make money....not all of it true, little of it worth reading. After a brief flurry of attention the whole thing fades.
