Solar Black Hole in Denver

Today I drove pass the Federal prison on Kipling. I noticed the solar panels were angled toward the north. Really .... can we afford funded federal solar projects when the panels face the north?

Also, drove pass the Fed Center. The fed center just built covered parking for their distribution employees. They placed solar panels on the top of this new covered parking.

We need the 7News Investigators to do a story on these fed solar project waste. They should calculate the return on investment on the solar black hole at the Fed Center? By the way, there is no return of investment. The amount of solar projects on the Fed Center grounds are staggering.

Hey Wayn-O...yeah, there's no financial ROI on any pages.... I could care less about the number of government carbon farts we saved. I'm thinking about doing a FOIA request. I would like to know how much energy is saved, what was the projected return on investment, what is the average cost of KWH when purchased from an electricity company, what is the estimated value of the land used for solar panels, how much the new covered parking cost, estimated life span of the panels, operational issues to date, and the total amount of money spent on solar, cost of the infrastructure (i.e. power center, batteries, etc).

It can be said that 'alternative power' is a sort of passionate study for me, and even that might be an understatement. So without coming into this thread and throwing down a ton of information thus wasting my time typing content that perhaps only 2% of this forum will read I'll simply make a statement and ask a question:

1.(Statement) I'm very intrigued that the correctional facility has opted for directional capable solar panels in lieu of fixed ones.

2.(Question) Given my above statements, why would someone like me be pleased to see these facing North?

I'll offer fair warning and merely suggest that the question is more or less rhetorical prompting further, more logical thought processes from those that would participate in such a discussion. Why? If for no other reason than to raise the bar from what I've witnessed in here thus far.......

We have a friend who is the Engineer in charge at the Fed Center on Kipling. The solar panel farm they put up a few year ago generated million KW if I recall correctly. I can get in touch with him to confirm. It's likely I do not recall the exact figure correctly, but they were most pleased with the results being better than they anticipated.

As a person interested in alternative and renewable energy sources, Badger, I most certainly would love to know the answer to your query. Why are you pleased to see the directional capable panels at FCI Englewood face North?

I'm not a solar nay-sayer --- but I'm not addicted to solar crack, either.

Solar power does not produce any air pollution, hazardous waste or noise pollution. It does not contribute to global warming and emits no greenhouse gasses

(emphasis added)

(shaking head) --- anyone ever look into the chemical processes employed to manufacture solar panels - or the chemistry of the batteries that store the power generated by the solar panels?????

Of course not! The batteries are going to be a major hazmat issue as they are retired.

Notice how the solar panels are always placed for maximum effect? Not from the sun, but so the general public and the big wigs can see them easily, like the Fed Center and DIA ones.
