This man is risking his life for his human right to believe whatever he wants to believe. More evidence that Iran is NOT on the path to join the rest of the world (or at least the civilized world).

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Here's a curious fact -- Pastor Yusef is being defended by a lawyer named Dadkhah...... Mohammed Ali Dadkhah.

Mr Mohammed Ali Dadkhah, has made it clear to the court that the repeated demand for recanting is against both Iranian law and the constitution. The court replied that the verdict of the Supreme Court must be applied, regardless of the illegality of the demand.

What I'd like to point out here is that the problem isn't so much Islam or Iran - as it is Iran's corrupt and vile leadership.

(I suspect the Mullahs will hang the pastor)

Iranian Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, who is facing the death penalty, again refused to convert to Islam to save his life.

Nadarkhani was arrested in 2009 for the crime of apostasy because he allegedly abandoned Islam for Christianity. As a pastor, Iranian clerics believe that Nadarkhani was preaching in order to convert Muslims.

Lots of discussion on the topic, here:

http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2011/10/0 ... ?hpt=hp_t2

Note:
Islamic law is based on:
- the Quran (first and foremost - there's a single accepted version of the Quran)
- Hadith (historical collections of the sayings and actions of Islam's founder, Mohammed - about a half dozen collections)
- Fatwas (varies according to school of thought --- hundreds of versions)

The Quran does not really prescribe punishments for converts.

There's one version of Hadith that discusses killing converts ("let him who leaves the religion be killed") - but this passage is not widely accepted - and it was written specifically in the context of warfare - where switching religion was effectively treason.

Fatwas - there's as many opinions as there are preachers.

Most Iranians don't really care what religion this guy wants to follow. There's a strong dislike of Islamism (fundamentalist approaches) - not unlike the mainstream American dislike of protestant fundamentalists. In fact, as I noted earlier - he's being defended by a devout Muslim - named Mohammed!

Meanwhile, the mullahs, realizing they're not winning any points by killing a convert, decided that the individual in question also raped a woman - and coincidentally - that has a death penalty, as well. (likely trumped up charges)
