How exactly would compulsory voting be accomplished? Would the police and national guard be mobilized to flush all citizens from their homes on a specific day and transported to a voting center? Once there those old enough would mill through and be made to cast a vote while their family members are held hostage? If you are willing to force people out of their homes by force to make them vote then what happens to those who resist? Are they fined, imprisoned, or shot, or all three in that order? Can a government that has been given that much control over their citizens be trusted to hold an election?
Sure everyone of age in Venezuela votes but their votes mean nothing, Hugo Chavez has installed himself as the head of state for as long as his life lasts. I want no part of that model to be implemented in the United States of America.
US citizens who are too lazy to cast a ballot by mail or get off their butts and vote on election day get what they deserve.
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
"Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take care of him; better take a closer look at the American Indian." - Henry Ford
Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges; When the Republic is at its most corrupt the laws are most numerous. - Publius Cornelius Tacitus
I'm sure it works very well in a system of governing where your rights eminate from the government, but that isn't the system we have, nor do we share your desire to fundamentally transform what we do have into such a system.
And really now Wayne - Conservative Voice?? Have you decided to abandon any pretense of honesty that you might yet still retain?
Yes, I think it's a great idea. You live in this country, it's your obligation to pick the leaders.
Selecting the people to lead this country shouldn't be left a select few. The smaller the number of voters, the more easily an election can be manipulated.
The United States has one of the lowest percentages of voters in the free world. That's just wrong.
"Select" few makes it look as if only a few elite are allowed to vote. The truth is that every citizen has the right. They also have the freedom not to vote. Of course, Saddam Hussein was always able to say he was elected unanimously because all of the Iraqi citizens were required to vote and they were required to vote for a certain candidate...
