Incentives always work better than punishments - if we could get you to adopt that same principle when applied to taxation, we might make a conservative out of you yet.

you thought wrong. I'm still in the state of Colorado, but when I get back to conservative right wing Arizona, I will indeed be in a state of confusion.

Why is the author so enamored of what other countries do, that are inferior to this country? Voting is a privilege of living in this country. After the results of 2008 I fear the masses voting without knowledge, but of course that seems to make sense to the original poster, name withheld to protect his identity, LOL.

Seems to me there are already plenty of incentives to vote.
1. To put into office those whom you feel will serve your best interests.
2. To remove from office those whom you feel are a determent to your best interests.
3. To support those issues you feel will serve your best interests.
4. To defeat those issues you feel are a determent to your best interests.

I know there is a big push to make the US a European style social democracy, it is important to remember we are a Republic.

And the more power we invest in a central government, the closer we get to being Rome. For myself, I would prefer the coordinate power structure of government intended by our Constitution instead of the consolidation of power into a single government that some seem to feel is progressive instead of regressive.

And that is why compulsory voting is stupid.

If compulsory voting is enacted, I want exclusive rights to the multi-sided die that will be used to determine the vote for each of the line items on the ballot that those who would not otherwise have voted will use.
