Church or Jail?

Church or Jail? was created by FredHayek
A southern county is wanting to offer first time offenders the choice of jail time or going to church for a year. (Per NPR Saturday). Seem the sheriff and pastors believe church teachings will decrease the chance of the perp becoming a 2 time offender.

The ACLU is preventing this from this option being offered until the courts decide if it is legal and a seperation of church and state.

But consider this, look at all the Catholic priests who were pedophiles, all that time in church didn't prevent them from commiting crimes, even after they were caught and transferred. Something about leading a horse to water, right?

I don't think church alone is adequate.

There are some faith-inspired programs (AA, for example) that often do a good job helping convicts/addicts recover - and I think I'd have more faith in those programs than I would mere church attendance.

Although I'm decidedly protestant, I think the Catholic pedophile thing is over-hyped and exaggerated.
