Desperate Democratic Demagoguery

Harry Reid announced today that Senate Democrats are rewriting President Obama’s so-called jobs bill. They are replacing Obama’s revenue measures with a 5% surtax on taxable incomes exceeding $1 million. Hey, that’ll create a lot of jobs! Even the New York Times (!) can’t swallow it:

Indeed, the Democratic proposal seems much more about politics than policy.

And the Republicans proposal to create "jobs, jobs, jobs"? Oh yea, they will get around to it someday.

So the obvious answer is to the wrong thing, cuz at least we're doing something, right?

It's amazing how murky Obama's American Jobs Act still is. Here is a copy of it:

http://www.democrats.org/pdf/jobs-act2/AmericanJobsAct

It states the costs, and the total comes to $447 billion. But it does't state just what the bill is supposed to accomplish in regards to creating any jobs. No projections about what it will do to the unemployment rate, not even one new job is promised. They are basically saying just trust us to spend another $477 billion.

At least with the Stimulus they did give us a projection of what it would accomplish. It was projected to keep the unemployment rate under 8%, and it should of been down to about 6.6% by now. But it continues to sit at around 9.1%. I guess I see why there are no projections in the new bill!

Also, the proposal has no specifics about which taxes will be raised and by how much. The Democrats just seem to be tossing out trial balloons right now, and Reid's 5% is just the latest. And by the way, according to the NY Times article, it's actually 5.6%

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/06/us/politics/democratic-leaders-propose-millionaires-tax-to-pay-for-jobs-plan.html

Now, is that in addition to the 3.6% increase Obama wants for those making over $250K? We really don't know, but my guess is the Dems want both. If so, that's a 9.2% increase, bringing the top bracket to 44.2%.

But wait, there's more! The 5.6% isn't just for regular income, it applies to capital gains and dividends as well. If the Bush cuts expire, cap gains go from 15% to 20%. Reid's plan brings it up to 25.6%.

And don't forget Obama Care. That added another .9% tax for Medicare, plus a 3.8% increase to capital gains bringing the total cap gains tax potentially up to 29.4%, almost double what it is today.

So at this point we don't have many details other than what the Dems want to spend. And don't expect any promises, or even estimates from them about how the plan is supposed to reduce the unemployment rate. I, for one, cannot support any more huge spending bills unless the Dems will give us projections we can hold them accountable for. But after the failure of the $800 billion Stimulus, I can't support spending more anyway.

They passed their own jobs bill and Harry Reid won't let the Senate vote on it.
Sen. Mitch McConnel created a compromise to Obama's jobs bill but once again Harry Reid doesn't want a record of how his Senate will vote on it.

And even Obama's Jobs bill isn't scheduled for a vote by Harry Reid. So Dog can continue to believe Obama's talking points that Congress isn't passing this bill, but even the "D" run Senate is bothering to schedule a vote on it.

(Reid isn't allowing a vote on it, because he knows it will not pass and embarass the President when even his own party won't pass it.) Or Obama knows his bill has no chance of passing and is using it just for political posturing.

Meanwhile top economists say this bill needs to pass to prevent the economy falling into another recession. So does Barack lock himself in a room with Congress hammering out a compromise? Nope, he visits Colorado and a dozen other states. :dislike:

It makes me wonder why Barry thinks the same solution that didn't work the first time will work now. How many times do you have to pick up a rock next to a camp fire to figure out the rock is hot before you stop making the same mistake? It's as if Barry is doing this on purpose because he wants the US economy to implode.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Can we make Obama and Reid run a lemonade stand before they draft a jobs bill?

exactly, why would we want to vote in the Republicans? There is little chance that they will be any different now than they have always been....big spenders who care not for the average American, but for their own corporate sponsors. They will never change, and the Tea Party is nothing more than the GOP on steroids. It would be insanity to give the government over to the Republicans again.
