Mailing Ballots To Non-Active Voters

This year it looks like county commisioners in Dem counties are sending out ballots to people who didn't vote in the 2008 election. Part of an attempt to get Prop 103 passed.

But I think it is just silly, if you didn't vote in the 2008 Presidential Election, I am betting you are either dead, have moved, or have given up on voting.

But getting votes from dead people is a Democratic tradition, especially in Cook County, Illinois.

There are lots of reasons why you might miss an election. Many of those who were in line to miss a ballot didn't vote because they were serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. I'm sorry, but there is no way I can get behind a move to deprive those with the highest stakes of their right to vote.

But the ones who did miss voting in 2008 can still go down and vote if they want to.

I don't think sending out 50,000 ballots to people who may have moved on is a good idea.

It's a violation of the election rules.

Denver says it will send out ballots to inactive voters- the other counties will not.

This means Denver is ignoring the rules and trying to squeeze out as many democrat votes as possible.

Last week- Denver got a liberal judge to approve the mailings even though it violates a state statute.

Secretary of State Scott Gessler, a Republican, said he wanted to ensure the statewide uniformity of the election.

In his lawsuit Gessler pointed to state statute, which says clerks "shall mail to each active registered elector ... a mail ballot packet."

Although the judge refused to issue a preliminary injunction, Gessler's suit may continue.

The Secretary of State's attorney also said Gessler may issue a rule on the issue.
