If you're bumping this for me, and the biggest thing you took from my post was an argument about semantics, I hope you're not expecting much of a response, because this is all you're getting:

The child has expressed a desire to harm himself long before things became this drastic. If you had a child who came to you and expressed such a dislike with themselves that they threated to cause physical harm, you'd get them help, too, right?
Now, I'm going out on a limb here and hoping these two women are also great parents, and they worked through psycologists and ended up at a doctor. I don't know that for sure, but I like to think that the parental part of any human being, gay or straight, would react the same. I'd like to see more facts in this instance, but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt because I believe in good people, and good parenting, as an instinct, especially in those who would adopt a child.

The one thing I would say to this would be, again, that I think parenting will overpower. I don't think that these parents are trying to force an alternative lifestyle on their child. In fact, I would assume that lesbians old enough to have children grew up over the past few decades in the US, and would never pick the life they have probably endured for their child. If this child had straight parents, and did the same thing, would we be having the same discussion? Would the parents still be "sick"? Straight parents struggle with this, too. There are specials on news stations that deal with situations like this, where parents have said they allowed their children to undergo gender-reassignment surgeries because they knew it was the right thing to do. What about parents who have a child born with both male and female genitalia? Should the parents get to decide? I'm stretching your logic and I'm not understanding what makes these parents trying to help their child sick?

I guess I'm at a bit of a disadvantage in this discussion. I only know one trangender person and they rather regret the surgery now, but its too late. I do get what you're saying about the parents trying to do the right thing, but I really think that they are hurting the situation rather than helping since the kid is so young. If he has expressed a desire to harm himself, there is psychological help for that instead of screwing up his hormonal system. It is only my opinion, but these kinds of extreme treatments need to be reserved for a more mature age.
Not to drudge this up again, but here's another example, and I'm wondering the thoughts...
This is a story about a boy who wants to join Girl Scouts, and plays with Barbies and girl toys... There's no reference to the boy's father, but the mother in the story says "we" when referencing more than just her who lets her son act, dress, and play like a girl.
Is she also a monster for trying to help her son? Without knowing whether she's straight/gay/what-have-you... how do you feel?
I saw the girl scouts thing and I think that is as bad as what these parents are doing in the OP. The Girl Scout parents just showed up and said they wanted their son to join the scouts. I have issues with both sets of parents, only because they are now drawing attention to their son's plight and now he is most likely going to be made fun of by people like RT's offspring (if he has any). The people in OP are awful and being selfish as well. If you have children facing these issues, you do it privately and you do not alter them and inject them with drugs! And this has nothing to do with being gay or transgender. These parents are idiots, there are ways to handle problems like this.
