Generation X Doesn’t Want to Hear It

Earlier generations have weathered recessions, of course; this stall we’re in has the look of something nastier. Social Security and Medicare are going to be diminished, at best. Hours worked are up even as hiring staggers along: Blood from a stone looks to be the normal order of things “going forward,” to borrow the business-speak. Economists are warning that even when the economy recuperates, full employment will be lower and growth will be slower—a sad little rhyme that adds up to something decidedly unpoetic. A majority of Americans say, for the first time ever, that this generation will not be better off than its parents.

— New York Magazine

Generation X is sick of your bullsh*t.

The first generation to do worse than its parents? Please. Been there. Generation X was told that so many times that it can’t even read those words without hearing Winona Ryder’s voice in its heads. Or maybe it’s Ethan Hawke’s. Possibly Bridget Fonda’s. Generation X is getting older, and can’t remember those movies so well anymore. In retrospect, maybe they weren’t very good to begin with.

Generaion X'r here too, on the cusp, born in 1965, possible baby boomer depending on who defines me.

We won't have any money to retire on, but the millenium generation is supposed to be the first one that won't live as long as the previous generation. So we get to live long but with out money, and the millemium people will be paying our SS benefits but they won't live long enough to get their own benefits. Especially if the age gets boosted to 70.

I was born in 64. I have never felt that I had an identity until I heard of gen X and I identify with that.

Technically you are a baby boomer, 1945 to 1965. But if you feel you are a Gen X'r, go for it. I feel I am about 1/2 and 1/2.

Technically I am the last year but forget it I don't feel like a baby boomer. I did not see any of that stuff and just am not a baby boomer.

One thing for certain - America is full of whiners, complainers and blamers. If its not class warfare, its generational warfare. If it is not the greedy corporations, it's the corrupt government. Or China. Or Big oil. Or Big "anything". SOBs

What happened to the "can do" spirit? Haha

If you want to be, press one. If you want not to be, press 2

That is what generation W is all about. Can do ... Stealth technology, cell phone technology, internet, super computers, transiters, transitor radio, vaccume tube, ... what else?

I'd say that is can do.
