Obama Cuts Personal Checks to Help Struggling Americans

On occasion when the mood strikes him, President Obama will write personal checks to help struggling Americans who have written to the White House.

That’s the big scoop in a new book by a Washington Post reporter about the ten letters that the White House says the president reads every day to keep him in touch with the American public. The revelation was quickly picked up by a number of media outlets and, if nothing else, is sure to increase the number of letters Americans send the president's way.

ABC News has the passage in question:"A few times during his presidency, Obama admitted, he had written a personal check or made a phone call on the writer’s behalf, believing that it was his only way to ensure a fast result," Eli Saslow writes in his newly released Ten Letters: The Stories Americans Tell Their President.

"It’s not something I should advertise, but it has happened," the president told Saslow. "Some of these letters you read and you say, ‘Gosh, I really want to help this person, and I may not have the tools to help them right now. And then you start thinking about the fact that for every one person that wrote describing their story, there might be another hundred thousand going through the same thing. So there are times when I’m reading the letters and I feel pained that I can’t do more, faster, to make a difference in their lives."

I can't say I have any negative feelings for a POTUS who feels compelled to share his own money with a few citizens; smells like a campaign stunt to me.

Not that long ago a "few" citizens of the former Motor City, Detroit for those who don't get the reference, lined up to get some "Obama money," could it be that Barry was cutting checks at this event? Nah, this was just another redistribution of wealth event:

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

I'm inclined to believe there is little Obama does that is not fueled by political motivation. I want to believe this is not the case here. I think most of us are more than willing to reach out to hard-working people who are in desperate straights if you have the means to do so. It can happen to anyone. It's an endless ambition.

He'll have a hard time matching the evil Dick Cheney when it comes to charity....but whatever looks good for Obama's 4year campaign.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

What this country needs is not a politician who uses whatever means at his disposal to get re-elected. What we do need is a leader who is genuinely interested in serving America. Obama is not that man.

IT's been a long lining of political pockets at tax payer expenses. Rarely do the politicians ever look to slash budgets by cutting their own lavish benefits. It would be one thing to have them be rewarded IF they actually did something constructive as opposed to destructive and selfish. Most need to be broomed from office and benefits curtailed to align with that of other Americans.

Obama was right, he probably shouldn't have made mention of it to a member of the press hoping it would be widely reported and change his current poll numbers. Ironic that the media found it with reporting that someone with "hundreds of thousands of dollars" he "didn't need" was charitable with those funds. Perhaps because it was seen as a departure from his normal behavior given his pervious tax filings?
