I know I've lost interest. All the partisan hysteria infects every topic. A few posters ruining it for everyone. A trend that you can certainly extrapolate out to society at large.
Posts that don't get any responses are due to the other side not being able to come up with some nasty relatiive comment. And if there are responses from "the other side', it usually gets off on the wrong track because of an insult of some sort.
In real life, if I wanted to have a political discussion with someone, and the first thing out of their mouth was "teabagger", that conversation would instantly end. But here in idiotland, you can have a 10 page thread that is 90% insults and 10% substance. I've challenged people here to talk like grown ups, but have been shot down every time because I'm told that it's just not possible. This place is a political dumpster.

Come on wayne, you know as well as i do that there are very few active threads (both sides debating) that are not laced with nasty insults and deflections from the actual topic. If there is a topic that can't be countered with an insult, it usually gets ignored by the other side. I would be the first one to stop being an a$$hole if others followed. In fact, I would make a guarantee (not a VL guarantee) that I would never come back here if I broke that pledge.
If we had a contest to see who could refrain from insults for just one week, this place would be mostly crickets or the a$$holes who are unable to debate like adults would continue being a$$holes in defiance. Either way, this place is not an environment for intelligent debate.

Personally, if the original post is extremely biased or trollish i.e. "Obama Was A Baby Killer As A Teen," I don't respond. There's no reason to. Since no one else responds either, others may feel the same way.
It has nothing to do with no being able to think up something nasty for a response, as you claim.
If I don't feel I have any input, not name-calling or arguing (sometimes I think the argument is just for argument's sake), I won't say anything. If the thread has degenerated into a mud-fest, I stay away from it.
