Why Is Obama Sidestepping Congress?

Last month at a gala for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, President Obama said: “I wish I had a magic wand and could make this all happen on my own...There are times where — until Nancy Pelosi is speaker again, I’d like to work my way around Congress."

This week, Mr. Obama is moving forward to do precisely that.

He is acting to disregard the bipartisan rejection of his so-called jobs bill – another warmed over stimulus bill like the one that already spectacularly failed – and implement large pieces of it without approval from Congress. The president is simply pretending the bill passed and moving forward, starting with yet another mortgage bailout.

For Obama to impose yet another mortgage bailout on a country sick of bailouts is outrageous. The subsidized-refinancing scheme will cost taxpayers at least $600 million according to the administration’s own estimates, and will almost certainly cost much more than that if any significant number of borrowers actually sign up for the program. That’s because the federal government is a significant owner of mortgage-backed paper.

Because he is a Dictator more than a President. He is feeling deperate and trying to give away more money for votes when even the Dems are not for his plan enough to pass it. He does not care about the will of the people who overwelmingly don't want this. His ego is telling him he has to win no matter what it costs this country. He is making it easier and easier for the R's to beat him easily!

you're kidding, right? the GOP run congress has stated years ago that their #1 job is to beat Obama in 2012; thus standing in his way to do ANYTHING that would be GOOD for this country and by the way, make him look good. The American people are in favor of his jobs plan, including MANY Republicans. I really don't understand the course of action for the GOP in this.

Seriously, how in the world can you call him a dictator? What has he done to make your statement even close to being true?

He is about to do it. The people don't want another spending bill. The Dems in the Senate can't even get all of them to vote for it. In fact more Dems voted for the Republican sponsered bill than Obama's. And now he says I don't care! I am am pushing it through without any support! My voters need money!

Saying he's a dictator is intended to inflame. It's not true. We have a system of checks and balances in our government. The powers of the president are clearly defined.

Psychoanalyzing the president with what you think he is thinking is foolish.

Thinking the next election is in the bag for any party this far in advance is equally foolish.

My understanding is he is modifying the rules of an existing program, the HAMP (Home Affordable Modification Program) which was approved by Congress.

I think a lot of things approved by Congress can be modified without going back to them again. But I guess it's up to interpretation just when it can, or should not be done.

Since the GOP is nothing but obstructionists, I guess it's time to go around them and get something done. They can participate, or they can get out of the way.

Sort of like what happened with the Health Care Reform. They didn't want any part of it, then when it was passed they were mad they weren't consulted.

More lies from you. Guess you didn't read where there were more Democrats in the Senate that voted for the Republican plan than Obama's. SO It is obama who is the obstructionist throwing out crap that no one wants and sticking to it.

I heard it is about people who need to get their mortgages refinanced as well as student loans. REAL ANARCHY that stuff. I can see why the GOP would stand in the way again. Must have something to do with hurting job creators, somehow
