Under current law, federal agencies are permitted to block the release of information that officials deem too sensitive, but a newly proposed rule change by the Justice Department would allow the government to deny the very existence of documents sought by individuals and organizations.
The proposed rule directs federal law enforcement agencies, after personnel have determined that information is too sensitive to be released, to respond to Freedom of Information Act requests "as if the excluded records did not exist."
Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the American Center for Law and Justice, says the move appears to be in direct conflict with the administration's promise to be more open.
Typical totalitarian government move. They already have the "National Security" defense to not expose sensitive information, this is just more evidence of where the nation is headed.
