Our society has moved beyond the idea that parents can do whatever they want to their kids with impunity. Sometimes too far, but we do try to protect innocent children from abusive care givers be they legal parents or anyone in a position of authority. I think the parents should be told they can have the kids back if they legally change their names. Let's find out if they love their kids or their ideology more.
