acquittal rate 80 percent for drunk drivers in Massachusetts

When state judges hear OUI cases without a jury, they acquit the vast majority of defendants, no matter how blatant the alleged offense. It is one more way Massachusetts stands out nationally — for all the wrong reasons — on this crime.

That is criminal. Isn't justice supposed to be, well, just? Sorry, these judges should be banned form presiding over further cases. Also, all cases should be done by a jury, preferably one that includes people who have lost loved ones to a drunk driver. After all the commercials talking about drunk driving and friends don't let friends drive drunk, we learn of this travesty. A jude like that really sends the wrong message, just the kind of message that has led our society to where we are today, one where most fail to accept personal responsibility. Ugly.
