U.S. House approves Hall of Fame Coin Act
As the Fall Classic brings another season of Major League Baseball to a close, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin Act (HR 2527) on Wednesday afternoon.
With a vote of 416 to 3, the legislation authorizes the U.S. Mint to produce a series of commemorative coins honoring the 75th anniversary of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, located in Cooperstown, N.Y., beginning Jan. 1, 2015.
Congressmen Richard Hanna, Mike Doyle (DEMOCRAT) and Joe Barton introduced the bill this past July, and it received co-sponsorship by 296 members of Congress.
The next step involves senators Kirsten Gillibrand (DEMOCRAT), Johnny Isakson, Dick Durbin (DEMOCRAT) and Saxby Chambliss, who will introduce the bill to the U.S. Senate.
The sponsors of the legislation hope to have it to President Barack Obama by next fall.
