Yep! It's bad enough that CA, HI, and IL currently do everything in their power to deny citizens their right of self-defense, not to mention the debacle in DC.
He's shooting himself in the foot (no pun intended) as well given the recent Gallup poll that showed a record low 26% of Americans are in favor of a handgun ban.
If the Constitution were still in force as adopted and amended, Cain would be correct in what he is saying. Given the assumption by the general government of powers it was never delegated, he isn't. The Constitution as amended is supposed to be a restriction upon the federal government alone with the States retaining all power and sovereignty not specifically delegated to the general government by that document, including the sovereignty to decide for itself if its citizens should be allowed to keep and bear arms, the type of arms they may be permitted to keep and bear and the restrictions under which they are allowed to keep and bear them. The constitutional convention composed of nine individuals that convenes each October decided that the federal government had the power to impose the restrictions placed upon it by the States on the States themselves through the usurpation of power that is commonly referred to as Selective Incorporation; which not only usurps this right from the States and their citizens, but many others as well.
And while I greatly appreciate that the court at least remained consistent in its unconstitutional application of that doctrine, I would be remiss if I didn't note that the decision reached in McDonald by the court was just as far removed from the Constitution as all the other decisions reached using that usurpation have been. Given the prior decisions by the Court it really had no option other than to include the 2nd Amendment under that umbrella, but that doesn't alleviate the reality that all of them fall outside of the authority delegated to the general government by the States in the Constitution.
States Rights! States Rights! (Except in 2nd amendment cases?)
Cain will need to be brought into line if he wins the nomination. But I prefer having a 1/2 molded Republican President than a man with no real convictions like Romney or no real apptitude for the job like Obama.
Maybe Obama should delegate the White House to Joe Biden while he continues his bus tour. Next week, Paris!
Back on topic:
Do you think the Feds should control all gun legislation? For example, currently in Colorado you can drink while carrying as long as you are not intoxicated. In Vermont, you can carry concealed without a permit. Would you rather the liberal US Senate decide a concealed carry permit will cost $1000 and a maximun of 100 hours of training and classes?
