"As the deadline to cut $1.2 trillion from our nation’s deficit enters the do-or-die phase, some veteran politicians are urging super-committee members to put aside party politics to reach a deal.
Former Senator (R-WY), as well as Former Co-chair of the President’s Debt Commission Alan Simpson spoke candidly on Thursday about the need to put country first and party lines second.
“I was there when you used to grab hold of an issue, and you didn’t care if you were a Democrat or a Republican; you were an American,” Simpson said.
So, does the former politician believe political courage is absent from the current D.C. contingency?
“ the power of campaign money has dulled their senses,” he admitted.

Maybe I have been brainwashed, but bipartisan to me usually means the Republicans have caved.
I would be willing to see a increase in income and capital gain taxes if there were actual holds on budget increase. No baseline budget for at least 1 year out of 3. I know we would lose a lot of control over discretionary spending since entitlement payments would have to rise, but I see no other choice.

I would go for no more base line budgeting and across the board cuts.
