HERMOSILLO, Mexico – A massive gun battle between rival drug and migrant trafficking gangs near the U.S. border Thursday left 21 people dead and at least six others wounded, prosecutors said.

The fire fight occurred in a sparsely populated area about 12 miles (20 kilometers) from the Arizona border, near the city of Nogales, that is considered a prime corridor for immigrant and drug smuggling.

Don't worry Pete Stark says, "The Border is Secured!" and Obama says, "We just need a bill" and all of this will go away.

I'm afraid it's going to take a cross border incursion (Mexico into the U.S.) and some horrific crime committed against U.S. citizens before the government gets serious about border security. With the money we've spent fighting in Iraq we could have built the Great Wall of China across our entire southern border by now.

You're looking at it all wrong, I see it (if they're were NO innocents involved), as 21 less drug and migrant trafficking gang members.

And since it's in Mexico, the six others wounded, got "FREE" health care.

For years, the drug cartel has ruled communities, police and government.... President Calderon, when he got elected, said he will take steps to stop them. He has. The cartel is fighting back. It is going to get a lot worse before it ever gets better.

American needs to stand side-by-side with Mexico on this issue. It is not an US vs THEM issue. It is not all Mexico's problem. While some of you enjoy getting high on pot and cocaine - party with it - it is a very dangerous business. Matter of life and death. While Americans can't get enough of the white powder to sniff and shoot, peoples lives are endangered to deliver you your goodies.

Americans/Canadians insatiable thirst for drugs has created this problem.

It is the law of supply and demand, my friend. It is bigger than a wall. It is more powerful than a wall.

Wayne, they can build a fence... the cartel will tunnel under it, they will bypass it on the ocean, they will use small aircraft to drop it in the desert, they will smuggle it in vegetable trucks, they will swallow it and walk onto planes, they will pay off border agents and drive right through with it..... with this much money at stake, they are going to find a way. The only thing the wall will stop is the small guys who are crossing for work - it will NOT stop the flow of drugs.

Well...I have to say, that when Americans die at the hands of drug cartels on our borders (our side), maybe those who oppose using force will start looking at the military taking care of business. I fear that armed Americans at the border will stop these illegals moving drugs and people with their own justice! If obama still looks away from the truth at the borders, there will be a war between the drug cartels and the average American. How many American lives must be lost in order for both dem and republicans in D.C. to do something?

Perhaps that these drugs are not legal has more to do with it.

Perhaps. People are doing them illegally and the Mexicans/Colombians are there to transport it to them illegally. It's all hand in hand.

Make it legal and then there is no reason for armed mules to transport it across the border illegally. Nor cartels to protect their territories and their cash roll.

Even candidates for governor are being assasinated.

And for those who say drug demand is the cause of all this violence, we have high drug demand in Colorado and we aren't seeing killings like this.

Part of this might be the US effectiveness at shutting down other corridors. The Columbians preferred sending the drugs direct to the US, but we shut down the Gulf of Mexico trade routes.

Don't you understand that the high drug demand in Colorado is supplied by the drug cartels in Mexico? That's why there is violence there and not here.
