Farmers needed a day to get to the county seat, a day to vote, and a day to get back, without interfering with the three days of worship
What were the three days of worship back in 1845?
I suspect Jews (Friday sunset to Saturday, with friday afternoon for preparation) and Sunday for the majority of Christians. And there were also a handful of Christian Saturday worshipers. Just an off the cuff possible explanation. Anyone have better info?
It was for distances and religious reasons, but pretty outdated stuff. After the industrial revolution, factory workers were working 10 hour days, six days a week. Wouldn't that make it hard for factory workers to vote?
